blue OASIS Paid Internship

The blueOASIS AI Labeling Team team internship

blueOASIS is committed to improve marine protection and conservation by reducing the impact of underwater noise pollution with Hydrotwin, which relies on the use of big data sources to utilize advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms. For this, we have a specialized team of underwater acoustic labeling experts that focus on making datasets of labeled and annotated data from our collected recordings of underwater noise.

WHALEFALL IS PLANNING TO USE THE Hydrotwin technology on the following projects":

  • SHARK PROTECTION IN COCOS ISLAND

  • Ending Blast Fishing in the Philippines

The blueOASIS AI Labeling Team team internship

The current internship is to train the machine learning model behind the Hydrotwin acoustic sensor. The Artificial Intelligence Labeler Work involves analyzing acoustic files and labeling them to help train an AI model to detect underwater acoustic events such as vessels and cetaceans. Students follow an autonomous training process followed by an evaluation period, during which participants learn how to use the acoustic software and identify different anthropogenic and natural sounds just by both hearing and visualizing their spectrograms.

Step 1: Please contact vsmith@whalefall.ngo if interested in participating in this internship with a min. of a one month commitment.

Step 2: Download the Comprehensive Guidelines Document and sample WAV files. The document will walk you through the training process.

Step 3: Send a wetransfer of your labeled (txt files) adding your initials at the end of each filename.

Step 4: Meet with the Carolina, the underwater acoustics team lead, to answer any final questions, and get set up to start training the model
